I See Jesus as the Beginning: Capital B

The Bible begins with the word brasheeth (Aramaic). There are a number of interesting and enlightening videos about this word. Most notable is the fact that it begins with the embedded Hebrew word bar, meaning son. Possibly the least noted fact is that it intimates before the beginning. Before the beginning of time as we know it, the Son of God WAS the Beginning of all that was to be, and AS that Beginning He, YHWH, was all that ever would be: God, the heavens, and the earth.

I assume you agree with me that YHWH is the action of God, and that God's action is His Son. What action can the Father make? Imagination. If God (the Ineffable) has consciousness, He has imagination--His "Son." God imagined, and the Son (Milta, Word) was (became) the beginning of all. They are one.

In those Beginnings God was saving us. That was His intention from the get-go, when His imagination fell into us. Our being goes back to that day. "Seed is absolute power!" notes T. L. Osborn. Our present was planted back then. It took thirteen or so billions of years to get around to us, but here we are: seeds now ready to sprout.

When I say that Jesus was the Beginning, I do not mean the guy born in Bethlehem (although he was there, too, just as we were). By 'Jesus' I mean YHWH, the action of God, who was and is also our savior. That action became all things. THAT was the fall, and also our justification, because it wasn't us, but Him. YHWH as our savior, Jesus, in the action of saving us, focused on a guy at the end of illustrative Season of Grace. He will focus on us, too, if we are like that guy.

The point is: WE ARE ALL ONE--ONLY GOD ALONE ... AS THE PERSON.

Requiem for Angels and Demons

Reconsidering my own experiences with demons, John G. Lake's experiences in Adventures In God (which I just discovered, and note it is 'In', not 'With'), and T. L. Osborn's and Curry Blake's testimonies concerning demons, I must conclude that my first Christian assessment--that the world really is the way the Bible says it is--was correct. That is, there really are angelic and demonic spirit entities--God's forces are in control of everything. I call them, like us, conscii. And they are, like us, active agents in the field--of the field--of the Ineffable Most High's creatively powerful intelligent Mind.

The field reaches from its ineffable Source to countless trillions of trillions of, well, all of creation. Somehow It knows all things past, present, and future. That is easy enough to explain: It has already imagined them. But managing everything to its predetermined end--countless trillions of things all at once--must require delegation within the field. All conscii are part of that. Think of the Mind of God segmented into elegantly arranged hierarchies of responsibility like government or business administrations, all within the field. Should we be individualized as persons ... the Person .. and not they?

I understand that God is an imperceptible and imperishable field of which and from which everything has come. The testimony of the Bible seems to be, though, that all the powers and forces are individualized as persons. Angels and demons are not just quaint frameworks for our dealing with the dynamics of the field. They are conscii imbued with varying levels of authority, power, and responsibility of action. "Person" is the form of all the Ineffable's power; i.e., the field exists in persons, because He is a person: THE Person. It is my belief that we human conscii are the ignorance of the Ineffable's imagination--persons of that ignorance now manifest as humans: "We shall make the human being in the image our likeness" (Genesis 1:26 Alexander)--ignorance! That is our column, our channel in the hierarchy.

Angels and demons are in their columns of authority: angels above us, demons below. THESE ALSO ARE HIM. The CEO is every position (the industry, too): "The buck stops here." They are not separate, but are conscii of the Ineffable's Field of Mind marshaled with authority appropriate to their function. So the Devil and demons, like angels, do exist to do what they do, but they are UNDER the authority of all other conscii. They are manifestations of our ignorance. The Big Guy wants to get rid of them and is getting rid of them. They hear and must obey. If we can command demons, we can request angels' help. This is all His process of becoming.

The one we desire is Him, and the one we destroy is Him.
The one we serve is Him, and the one we rob is Him.
The one we love is Him, and the one we hate is Him.
All is the Divine: the good person and the bad person.
The involved, and the indifferent.
Address Him in every person as that Person:
"Amen, I am telling you, that whatever you do for one of these my little brethren, for me you have done that" (Matthew 25:40 Alexander).
We look to cooperation and love, not competition and conflict.

Some New-To-Me T. L. Osborn Videos

T. L. Osborn was the most "got-it" evangelical missionary I ever met. You really cannot do better than to listen to his teaching and take it to heart. My only exception to him is the sense of separation still evident in his preaching. Of course, it's in the Bible, so he preaches it. He appears to have understood divisionless identification, but it still came out as divided. E.g., "We give Him our flesh; He gives us His Spirit." Osborn knew God's Holy Spirit is here in us all the time and that it only needs to be turned on. "Get turned on," he will say. Sadly, we just do not have a language of oneness.

Is Dejavu Because We WERE there?

Just a consideration regarding the theory that were are experiencing lives of sequential tracks of imagination simultaneously:

If we live one track, get old and die, and go back to live another track from some time in our past, we might encounter again places and perhaps events we experienced in previous tracks.

I had a couple of interesting experiences where I recognized or was recognized by people I had never met. In one case, I was hitchhiking through Whittier, California, on my way home from the beach, when I got picked up by a young man my age who started talking to me like I was his neighbor. "You're not Bob Gold?" he asked when he realized that I wasn't Bob Gold (or whatever name he thought I was). He looked familiar to me, also, but we had never crossed paths as far was we could determine.

Another incident was in Honolulu, Hawaii, waiting for a class to start at the metaphysics bookstore. About twenty or so people were milling around outside, and some of us were sitting on the grass. A young woman about my age kept staring at me. "I think I know you," she said. "Yeah, I think I know you, too," I replied. We could think of things we had done together, but we had never been the same areas of the country until we met that moment in Honolulu.

These did not seem to be mere doppelganger incidents or pickup lines. I just wonder if life tracks had overlapped, that we HAD been there, giving us that dejavu feeling.

Gospel is Revelation: The Guy in Heaven is Here, There, Everywhere

The verbal/written Gospel is important, but it becomes revelation inside the receiving person with the demonstration of power. It is quickening of the spirit. What is revealed is that we are one with God. He is conscious OF the receiver IN the receiver ALL of the time. It is just that WE don't get it. That is how I understand the Messiah; i.e., the Anointing. The human Jesus was a guy who got it. His spirit was quickened--spiritually enlivened--by YHWH within Him, Who ever was with Him.

The revelation was and is that we are not two: not a human and God. God's imagining is power to become whatever It believes/assumes It is, and become It has in the matter of the universe. It isn't dust; It is Him. The matter Him facilitates the dream Him in manifesting everything He dreams. Jesus the Spirit Him puts it all together in one consciousness: the Spirit, the awareness of man, and the physical body. It is all ONE. And so us, if we get it. THAT is the "Man" God created as His image, the "Man" Jacob wrestled with in the darkness of the brook Jabbok (emptied of himself).

This brings me to some interesting speculation. Jacob, emptied of himself, would not let the Man he was to be go (Genesis 32). The inward demonstration of power is particularly clear here: "*32:25 Lit. Ar. idiomatic construction: 'And he saw that his strength was not capable, and he neared his hind quarters, and there switched Jacob's hind quarters as he wrestled him....'" "And there switched Jacob's hind quarters as he wrestled him...." Hind quarters?

Let me crank up the speculation: Remember that the Gospel is the REWARD? I looked through 'reward' in Strong's Concordance. 2 Sam. 4:10 was something I recognized: "have given him a reward for his glad tidings." #1309 in Strong's Hebrew and Chadlee Dictionary is feminine, "glad tidings," from 1319. #1319 is basar, "to be fresh, full." Then #1320 caught my eye: basar (different pronunciation): flesh (from its freshness); by extension body, person; the pudenda of a man." The creative power of God (!) in this case. Jacob's hind quarters' strength was not enough, AND WAS SWITCHED WITH THE MAN HE WAS DESTINED TO BECOME, WHO WAS AND IS CAPABLE. When you are trying to Neville, switch!

The Gospel is Revelation Clips from Composition: Salient Bits and Pieces

I had a hard time coming to the point I wanted to make. I'd start one tack after another. Cut and paste composition is harder than just writing what you want straight out: "My Gospel" is the reward I get for the revelatory demonstration of the Good News by His signs and wonders. So now I've got a bunch of what I consider neat little unused/semi-used clips about the subject. Maybe you will find something salient among them:

I appreciate Vic Alexander's translation of Mark 1:1 from the ancient Aramaic: “The beginning of the revelation of Eashoa Msheekha, Son of Allaha.” (‘Eashoa’ is pronounced E-sho.) The implication is that Eashoa, Jesus, is the Revelation of Allaha, Who is the Creator.

The first time I read Mark 1:1 in Alexander's translation from ancient Aramaic, I noticed that the word for 'gospel' (awon-galee-yoon) was translated 'revelation':
“The beginning of the Revelation* of Eashoa Msheekha,* Son of Allaha.” (Eashoa is pronounced E-sho.)
Footnotes:
*1:1.1 Literal Aramaic idiomatic (Lit. Ar. id.) name: "Awon-galee-yoon," or He Reveals.
*1:1.2 Lit. Ar. id. name "Eashoa'," meaning "The Life-Giving, Living Branch," and, "M'shee-khah, "The Anointed One." For simplicity, then, in the proper English syntax "The Anointed Life-Giver."

I also noticed the definition of 'Galilee' in Aramaic Mark 1:9 was 'revelation'. I knew that something was going on, because none of these are so translated in traditional English bibles. In fact, they aren't even in the dictionary. Alexander has been accused of making things up, but I think it is more a matter of his Ancient Aramaic Church worldview influencing his understanding of these words in these contexts. He believes he is restoring the proper meanings of these words in these contexts (I wonder if other, older native speakers of Aramaic also trained in the ancient scribal language understand them this way).

At first, I got bent out of shape about the ancient authors' intention of the word for 'gospel' having been 'revelation' instead of the announcement of good news, because, of course, it is never translated that way in the modern New Testament. I felt like I had discovered some kind of secret knowledge. Then I found out that the really ancient, ancient original meaning of the word euangelion was the 'reward' the messenger of the glad tidings received. (See Millar Burrows, below.)

So Mark 1:1 MIGHT be translated: "The beginning of the reward received of the anointed Life-giving, Living Branch, Son of Godhood," as awon-galee-yoon most anciently meant "He rewards."

The anointed Life-giving Living Branch, Son of God, is Jesus, YHWH's anointing upon His Christ--our son. Please excuse this little segue: What does the Anointed One really mean? I have always thought it was the person upon whom the spirit of God rests, the one receiving the flow. But the healings and miracles are attributed to not the person, but to the Spirit of God, the One Anointed flowing onto the person. There is a channel of spiritual power: YHWH anointed upon the person receiving the anointing of YHWH upon him or her.

The reward is our salvation, the provision of whatever we need to fulfill His destiny. Manifestation of that is His revelation. The first steps in His revelation are our recognition, confession, and remission of sins. In Mark chapter 1: In those days the Life-giving, Living Branch ... comes from Victorious Revelation (Nazareth of Galilee) ... to be empowered in the Holy Spirit, after which there is proving of conversion/faith. (Note: this was about John the Baptist being the beginning of Jesus' ministry.)

All this sounds surprisingly patternish to what is called 'manifestation'.

In the King James Version, the Gospel According to Mark begins, "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God." Again, the Greek word for gospel here is euangeliou (εὐαγγελίου), a form of euangelion (εὐαγγέλιον). Εuangelion is usually translated "gospel," "good news," or "glad tidings"; i.e., it's a special whoop-de-do announcement or proclamation. Awon-galee-yoon is the Aramaic form of euangelion, a borrowed word between the two languages (so "gospel" in one language should still mean "gospel" in the other, right?), yet Alexander translates the whole verse as "The beginning of the Revelation* of Jesus Christ, Son of God" (Aramaic New Testament, 2010, ISBN 9781456475789, italics mine). In his footnote, Alexander says that awon-galee-yoon means "He reveals." HOW DID "GOSPEL" BECOME "REVELATION"? The difference is stupendous.

Well, was euangelion ever "gospel" as an announcement or proclamation? Interestingly, the first use of the word euangelion in classical Greek was for the reward given to the person who brought the glad tidings -- not for the announcement itself! Over the years, the announcement became equated to the reward it was worth to the bearer of the glad tidings: the proclamation was (good for) a "gospel." (Just a bit here from scrolling down on Millar Burrows' The Origin of the Term Gospel: euaggelion is the MESSENGER's REWARD--PAID to the preacher FOR his revelation.) The word gained a double meaning: the reward AND the message. Alexander says, "When the modern churches split off from the Church of the East in the 5th Century AD and adopted the Greek version of the Old and the New Testament, the theologians of the Roman church began to redefine the words of Scriptures. They literally wrote a new dictionary of the Ancient Aramaic. Today, my translation is ridiculed by the official churches on the basis that I'm not following the Aramaic-English dictionaries in existence. That's true, I'm restoring the original words." (Awon-galee-yoon is not "revelation" in the dictionary.)

"The beginning of the reward of the Anointed Life-giving, Living Branch, son of God."

BTW, depends on remission of sins.

Howsoever, another interesting thing is that neither Greek nor Hebrew make much out of the word Galilee. Check the dictionaries yourself. From Abarim: "for a meaning of the name Galilee, NOBSE Study Bible Name List reads 'circle', 'circuit'; Jones' Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names has 'rolling', 'revolving'; and BDB Theological Dictionary proposes 'circuit', 'district.' The name Galilee probably started out as a derogative: 'that' region; the boondocks; out in 'the country', and its name means just that: 'region'." King David's friend Hiram called the region of Galilee Cabul, meaning 'like nothing'. This is not very flattering, but worse, I found a dictionary entry which said that the meaning of Galilee was "a pile of dung."

The Book of Mark was the first of the New Testament Gospels written. I personally believe that Mark was an Indian Buddhist evangelist, one of the Therapeutae, a healer who converted to the ancient Mosaic form of Judaism (inward exercise as opposed to outward exercise). That is, Mark recognized that all is symbolic, psychological, and immediate states of the Ineffable's manifestation--just as the Elder had explained. Not surprisingly, Mark found that even at the end of the Season of Grace, not many people were getting what was going on. Trying to set them straight, he composed his gospel to reveal it. This is reflected in Mark 1:9's Aramaic: "And it happened in those days, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee,* and he was baptized in the Jordan River by John." Alexander notes that "Nussrat d'Ga-lee-la," in Mark means "Victorious Revelation." Jesus came from Victorious Revelation. Well, that IS good news!!

Also, Mark 1:14-15: After John was betrayed, Jesus came to Galilee (revelation of Allaha), and preached the Hope of the Kingdom of God. And he said, "The Age has ended,* and the Kingdom of God has arrived. Repent and believe in the Hope [of Salvation.]

Ferrar Fenton Lord's Prayer: Thy Name (the nature of YHWH) must be being hallowed, Thy kingdom (dominion) must be being restored, Thy will must be being done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today tomorrow's bread (He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him)

Jesus is YHWH, the action of the Ineffable saving us IN AND THROUGH US, creatively (by manifestation of imagination) fulfilling scripture--destroying or removing the old and giving the new. The material which blinds us in ignorance fades away and the light of the spirit takes its place. This reveals the Father, the Ineffable Person.

Elsewhere on the Internet I have read: "Aramaic: 'Awon-Galee-Yon,' which means the same thing (God's Revelation)." And "This is a correct name: 'The revelation of HIM.'"

Revelation. Not announcement or preaching good news, but SHOWING, DEMONSTRATING, PERFORMING God.

Hmm. The Greek ἐξηγήσατο means he reveals. Awon-galee-yoon means he reveals. Galilee means Revelation of Allaha. I wonder if God is trying to tell us something? Like maybe, Jesus--YHWH--is His revelation?

That is what the revelation OF God BY Jesus preaches to us: the Hope of the Kingdom, the Salvation, is HERE now. The thing that convinces people is miracles: the revelation of God by manifest action BY Him. "And the Apostles went out and preached Christ crucified WITH SIGNS AND WONDERS--works of faith and power--revelations of God.

"...in the events out of which the Christian Church arose there was a CONCLUSIVE ACT of God, who IN THEM VISITED AND REDEEMED His people; and that in the corporate EXPERIENCE of the Church itself there was REVEALED A NEW QUALITY OF LIFE, arising out of what God HAD DONE, which in turn corroborated the value set upon the facts" (C. H. Dodd, The Apostolic Preaching and Its Developments, p. 77, emphases mine).

The upshot of all this is that we are going to have to have the nerve to pray for one another and outsiders of ourselves to give God opportunity to reveal Himself. That manifest revelation will be our message: "It pleased God by the foolishness of the Preaching--the revelation which is the 'message'--to save them that believe" (1 Corinthians 1:21, parenthesis mine).

Acts 1:8 Except the Holy Spirit shall comes on you, you shall receive power and you will witnesses for me.

Acts 8:17 Then consecrated the hand over them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Acts 10:38 Regarding Eashoa (Jesus) of Nazareth, whom Allaha (God) anointed by the Holy Ghost and Power, and he preached and healed those who were wracked the devil.

1 Corinthians 2:4 and my manifestation and preaching are not through deliverance by words of wisdom, except through the revelation of the Spirit and power.

Romans 15:18-19 For I do not dare say anything that the Messiah did not ordain through my hands for the benefit of the nations through Manifestation and works, through the power of miracles and wonders, and by the power of the Spirit of Allaha.

Acts 6:8 Stephen then was filled with grace and power, and he performed signs and wonders among the people.

I noted the occurrences of the word "gospel" in Strong's Concordance, and looked up the passages in Alexander's translations from the ancient Aramaic (below). I think I will stick with Alexander:

Mark

The Use of Gospel-is-Revelation ... or the Creative Power of God

Note : title is synopsis. Actually, having gotten all I want to say in the title, I could probably dispense with this debacle right here. But for those who could use a good sermon, term paper, or thesis subject, here in 3 and 4 is material I have been working with about 'gospel' being active revelation, the demonstrable exercise of God's power ...

Alexander's translation is "idiomatic," i.e., it goes for what the authors meant. The announcement of glad tidings is a revelation to those who receive it. They did not expect it, did not anticipate it. Bam! Here is the good news. It IS a revelation of great import. Awon-galee-yoon meaning revelation isn't in the etymology of the letter, but of the spirit. Further, the revelation isn't simply the announcement of information, the revelation comes in the demonstration of power.

I am concerned for LOAers who neither recognize nor honor God as their father. My observation has been that many (okay, not all) advocates of the Law of Attraction say that “God” is simply a neutral force we can use by the vibration of our mental-state, or that we can order the powers of the universe to do our bidding. I feel that LOA utilization basically denies the existence of an individual and distinct Person Who is the Consciousness of the ultimate One. Yet that Person is, in my opinion, THE Divine Person of Whom each of us is part, and that without division (i.e., we are not away, separate, or "other"). The Divine One is a loving and concerned Father to each of us, and our respecting It as such is simply right.

When something we desired manifests, it is a “gospel,” a reward and a revelation that the Consciousness, the Divine Person is real--that It is present, conscious, and powerful to act. As for our "vibe" doing anything, that too is Him. Prospering as our soul prospers is not having big bucks success at business; it is provision by Him of what He knows we need as our souls prosper in that Father-child relationship. Getting things doesn't mean anything EXCEPT that God is there and powerful and that we OUGHT by rights honor Him as Father. Jesus Christ is the action of God the Father saving us -- providing whatever we need.

What made T. L. Osborn T. L.? It was Jesus Christ standing in the air at the foot of his bed. Revelation. What made Neville Neville? It worked. Revelation. "It will always work. If it doesn't, the problem is in us."

Revelation/Power Bent

This is debacle because I have to give out piecemeal. It was revelation to me when I saw that Vic Alexander translates awon-galee-yoon and euangelion ("Gospel") as "He reveals" in the New Testament. I believe he is on the right track, but that it is bigger. And I have reason.

This revelation/power mindset started over forty years ago, when at Melodyland School of Theology I learned that the last word in John's prologue (verses 1:1 through 1:18), because it does not have a specified object in the Greek text, must be translated 'revealed' rather than 'declared'. I understood the logic, and found that none of the versions so translated it. I wasn't surprised, knowing that he who deceives the whole world has been especially active in the church. You have to fight to get to the truth. This was the beginning:

I found that the Greek word exēgēsato (ἐξηγήσατο), which is the last word in the Gospel According to Saint John's prologue (John 1:1 to 1:18). Exēgēsato, from which we get the words 'exegete' and 'exegesis', is usually translated "declared." Hence the King James Version's "He hath declared Him."

The commentary I was reading, however, pointed out that when the Greek word exēgēsato has no specified object, it must be translated "revealed" rather than "declared."

Exēgēsato in John 1:18 is just such a case, for THERE IS NO OBJECT FOR IT IN THE GREEK TEXT. Unfortunately, because there is no object, the translators have supplied one, "Him," for the understood object: "God the Father." The object "Him" is italicized in our Bibles because IT IS NOT THERE IN THE GREEK TEXT--IT HAS BEEN SUPPLIED. Yes, the object is implied in the normal use of the word, but by supplying a specified object, the translators voided the Greek grammatical rule of exēgēsato's meaning without the object, which is "revealed." Thus our Bibles variously say that He (Jesus) "declared," "explained," "proclaimed," "spoke of," "made known," "told about," or "interpreted" the Father; rather than just clearly saying: "God-the-Father He revealed." The difference is stupendous.

The logic is that with the object, something else is being declared or explained. Without the object, you are looking at the real thing; there is no separation: the one revealing is the one revealed.

I had this exchange with Andrew in my last post:

No. If the object is not specified, 'he' IS the object. In a sense, 'he' is declaring, "I AM." He is DIRECTLY revealing Himself. Your second example isn't valid as it either is specifying the object, or is violating the rule. Can't have your cake and eat it, too, you know.








The Mystery Post I Cannot Write: Gospel, Revelation, Reward, Power

God has been teaching me stuff about revelation; that I know, because the same stuff keeps coming up and going in the same direction. But I cannot explain it to others very well, because I am not sure I get it. And there is so very much of it. I think it is about a place I am supposed to be, but am not disciplined enough to commit to. Not mature enough. But write I must. Wrestling with it helps me sort it out.

This is the beginning of a hodge-podge, the bits and pieces I am working with. It is something wonderful--that I can see, if you get the spirit of it. If you are a letter person ... not so much.

I am of the view that Jesus is the revelation of God, the Milta. More than His agent, He is His total action here. So when I read Victor Alexander's translation of Mark 1:1 from the ancient Aramaic, "The beginning of the Revelation ...," I figured, "Okay, here's a guy that gets it." But there are problems with that.

Because I write so much about Vic Alexander, a fellow in England asked me what was Vic's translation of Romans 1:9. 'Revelation' is also in that verse, which is part of the problem: in neither of these verse is it supposed to be ... which is the problem.

Below is an edited e-mail exchange, actually two threads combined (not necessarily in order), which turned out to have something to do with my concern for God-demeaning LOAers. It started with Andrew asking me about Romans 1:9. I responded:

I have caught on that I am being taught something by God. A whole lot of things are piling up. It is that we are to reveal God to our fellow man. Reveal, not explain. Not announce. Revealing God is primary, rather than announcing the Gospel, the "good news," preaching, and teaching about Him. For knowledge of God comes by revelation, and Gospel MEANS revelation.

Back in the 1970s, at Melodyland School of Theology, I read a commentary on John which informed that because the last word in the Greek John 1:18, ἐξηγήσατο (exēgēsato), 'declared,' had no object, it HAD TO BE translated 'revealed': i.e., "He (Jesus) has revealed." THAT revelation burned into my skull. According to that Greek rule, Alexander's English translation from the ancient Aramaic would be: "No human ever saw Allaha, except for the only born Allaha, He who existed in the bosom of His Father, [Who] revealed." Revealed, Alexander's translation does not say that, but for over forty years that proposed Greek rule has been in the back of my mind--and often in the front--that Jesus Christ is the revelation of God rather than the explainer of God.

Interestingly, seemingly to avoid having to properly translate the Greek John 1:18's ἐκεῖνος ἐξηγήσατο (ekeinos exēgēsato) as "He has revealed," translators ADDED to the text an uncalled-for, not-in-the-Greek-text object: Him. This allows them to translate the words as "He hath declared--made known/explained/proclaimed/spoken of/told us about/interpreted--Him.” They know they are not supposed to add to the text, but if they didn't, "Well," they'd say, "we can't DO that!" (i.e., admit Jesus is God's own revelation). They have to distance us as talkers about God, lest we become accountable to reveal Him. God is telling me, "Yeah, but...that isn't what I said."

It would appear that the "talk about Him" translations of ἐξηγήσατο (exēgēsato) are all right. As I recall, my source agreed that indeed they were, IF ἐξηγήσατο (exēgēsato) had an object. Look at the Greek ἐξ, Strong's 1537. I think my source's problem was that without an object, the prepositional point of origin, "the point whence motion or action proceeds" (Strong's) becomes the talker; in this case ἐκεῖνος (ekeinos): "He." I.e., He (Jesus) was the point "discussed," the very revelation of God.

Yes, I see hands waving in the back. Do you have a question? What has this got to do with euangelion, the Greek word for gospel? Well, in reading Victor Alexander's translation from the ancient Aramaic, I noticed that Mark 1 begins: "The beginning of the Revelation* of Jesus Christ,* Son of God." Revelation? Of course, I know that the Greek word for 'revelation' here is εὐαγγελίου (euangeliou): gospel or good news. How the heck did Alexander get 'revelation' out of εὐαγγελίου? (Blue Letter Bible on 'euangelion.')

Alexander's footnote on Mark 1:1 explains that the Aramaic word here is: Awon-galee-yoon: "He reveals":

It is revelation. Not announcement or preaching good news or glad tidings, but SHOWING, DEMONSTRATING, PERFORMING HIS OWN REALITY.

Also, the question arises, which language is borrowing from which? It goes without saying that the Aramaic awon-galee-yoon, he reveals; equals the Greek euangelion, glad tidings. I have no doubt that Jesus Christ could speak Hebrew, Egyptian, Greek, Latin, and Arabic, but his native home language was Aramaic. Except for some Latin with Pilate and some Greek Septuagint, all the Galileans LIVED 24/7 in Aramaic.

Here is something interesting: both the Greek and Hebrew do not make much out of 'Galilee'. Check the dictionaries yourself. (From Abarim): "for a meaning of the name Galilee, NOBSE Study Bible Name List reads 'Circle, Circuit'; Jones' Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names has 'Rolling, Revolving'; and BDB Theological Dictionary proposes 'Circuit, District.' The name Galilee probably started out as a derogative: 'that' region; the boondocks; out in 'the country', and its name means just that: Region." David's friend Hiram, called Galilee Cabul, meaning, 'like nothing'. Not very flattering. But worse, I found a dictionary entry which said that the meaning of Galilee was "a pile of dung."

The Galileans had a different opinion, as reflected in Mark 1:9's Aramaic: "And it happened in those days, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee,* and he was baptized in the Jordan River by John."

Jesus came from the Victorious Revelation. Well, that IS good news!!

Hmm. The Greek ἐξηγήσατο means he reveals. Awon-galee-yoon means he reveals. Galilee means he reveals. I wonder if God is trying to tell us something? Like maybe ... He reveals?

Mark 1:14. After John was betrayed, Jesus came to Galilee, and preached the Hope of the Kingdom of God, 15. And he said, "The Age has ended,* and the Kingdom of God has arrived. Repent and believe in the Hope [of Salvation.]

The Hope of the Kingdom, the Hope of Salvation, was and is the revelation of God. You can have your stories and illustrations, your systematic theologies are marvelous--oh so well worked out--we should learn them all, but the thing that convinces people is miracles: the revelation of God. And the Apostles went out and preached Christ crucified WITH SIGNS AND WONDERS--works of faith and power--revelations of God.

ευαγγελιον really has to come from ευ (good, well) + αγγελλω (to announce) or αγγελος a messenger.
I would be interested to know whether Alexander's 'Awon-galee-yoon," or He Reveals' stands up as etymology?

I want to thank you again for contacting me. It is very exciting to be on the supply side for a change. As you know, when God is teaching you something, the single idea he is teaching seems to come from every direction. It is always exciting to be taught by him. To be part of the idea he is teaching someone else is very humbling.

May I suggest searching the Internet for a pdf of Col. J. Garnier's The Worship of the Dead (if you do not already have it)? It is one of the most valuable and enlightening books I have found, a very lengthy and detailed discussion of the spread of peoples, languages, and religions after the flood. I think you will find the flow going FROM the Semites TO the Greeks. I find it highly unlikely that the Greeks had an idea for the Messianic Anointing that was equivalent to or flowed to the Jews, or that the Greek idea of Good Tidings became awon-galee-yoon. Abram the historical figure was an Assyrian who would have spoken an ANCIENT ARAMAIC. Good tidings of God's revelation would have flowed from the Assyrians, and euangelion would be a loan word TO the Greek language FROM those ancient times.

You might want rather to thank Brian Simmons. Even if he is a fraud and a con-man (if you sit in a chair at a university long enough, they will give you a doctorate of something), you might owe him a debt of gratitude for putting you onto the fact that the Greek New Testament is a translation of Aramaic-lived lives. I think this is something God wants you to 'get'. Even if he is bs, God has used him to teach you.

Vic anti-evangelistic? I think he was more interested in correction. Just the word there, evangel, to him would not mean to announce, but TO REVEAL. We do not want to be caught saying (I exaggerate) a 500 BC word in one language is a loan word from a 50 BC foreign language usage. Vic has always been very secretive about which Aramaic text he is using. He has said it doesn't matter which text; it matters how well one knows the language. I asked him about some names in Proverbs 30. He said Strong's was all but useless. That dictionaries were all but useless, because they were written backwards--by people who didn't really know the language as a native. Like the case we have here, where it is assumed that awon-galee-yoon must mean Gospel because it is from euangelion, when it is the opposite--the Aramaic revelation is Good News! Vic has said he is virtually rewriting the dictionary. I hope someone good gets his papers when he passes.

One last thought (or two): Are you familiar with Surprised By The Power Of The Spirit by Jack Deere, or its ilk? It just happened to come to mind now. I've got a lot of Pentecostal-leaning writing in my library. And I am going to put Alexander's Ephesians on another e-mail. The second thought: your church doesn't give you an allowance for books? Amazing.

When the American missionaries came to Urmiyah in 1835, they found that the 'Assyrian' Christians didn't understand the Syriac of the Peshitta, so they translated the scriptures into modern Syriac - the Old Testament from the Peshitta, the New from Greek (the latter on instructions from head office).
Vic had a copy of the modern Syriac bible, and started translating from that. Then a Church of the East priest told him that he should be translating from the Peshitta. Vic found that it was very different - eg in John 1.1, where the modern Syriac doesn't have milta. Rather than applying himself to learn the ancient Syriac of the Peshitta, I think he just made things up. I believe I pretty much worked this out here:
He is a film-maker, who follows Fellini, who he quotes as saying that 'the layer of ‘fantasies, dreams and imagination’ is ‘the real person’'.

I was looking up all the occurrences of 'Gospel' in the KJV to see how awon-galee-yoon had been translated as opposed to euangelion; Greek incorporated into Syriac? That might explain Alexander's uses here:

Are you suggesting that the Greek word εὐαγγέλιον had been incorporated into the Aramaic spoken in the land of Israel at the time of Christ and the apostles - this would be one way of upholding Aramaic primacy (not sure whether you believe in that for Paul's letters?) But then it would mean good news, not revelation.
It occurs in Homer's Odyssey, so is old in Greek. Syriac has its own word for good news:
Re Alexander's etymology, it is true that GLA - gamal-lamad-alaf - root means 'he revealed'. But to get a fit of two consonants - GL - out of 8 is not that impressive. If it's 'I have revealed it' as in Alexander's note to Revelation 14.6, is that a fit with "Awon-galee-yoon,"? In Mark 1.1 he says it means He Reveals. Personal pronouns are suffixed not prefixed to verbs I think, and I can't see anything like yod-waw-nun in the suffixes:

Thanks. That was something to think about. Just a bit here from scrolling down on Millar Burrows' The Origin of the Term Gospel: euaggelion is the REWARD PAID to the preacher FOR his revelation. Should we be reading "preach the gospel" as "preach the reward to be received for revelation"? As in "if I do this willingly, I have a reward." Maybe we're just not reading either language correctly.

New meaning apparently invented by Alexander, adopted by Simmons. They have corrected most of the mis-translations I pointed out in 2017, but only half corrected this one, and invented an entirely new meaning for υποτασσομαι :

The idea of revelation is there, but I thought euaggelion meant the announcement, not the reward for its revelation. While I am here, I didn't open them, but was there about a dozen links about wives submitting to their husbands in a post? Like this is hard or something? Adam is God's consciousness, Eve his imagination, a facet of His consciousness. Keep our imagination in line with God's consciousness: our maker is our husband. We should be as sold out, dedicated, devoted to God as Achan's treasure was supposed to be.

Having now looked it up, I agree with you about 2 Samuel 4.10 - ᾧ ἔδει με δοῦναι εὐαγγέλια. To whom it was necessary [obliged I guess] for me to give a reward for good news.
But I think it's a natural development of the word - especially when ευαγγελιζομαι meant to bring good news - as in the same 2 Samuel 4.10 - αὐτὸς ἦν ὡς εὐαγγελιζόμενος ἐνώπιόν μου - he was as one bringing me good news.

My perspective on the matter was formed in my baptism in the Holy Spirit experience. It was just one experience. When I read 'devoted' in Alexander's version, I immediately thought of devotion a la Joshua 6:17. In the baptism of the Holy Spirit, having found myself accursed of God, I devoted, verily destroyed myself to God in my submission. I made myself--recognized that I was--subject to, as He is our head. I repented, shut up, and waited humbly for his direction. It is all one thing: a found attitude and place. It's hard for me to imagine anyone, especially Christians, not getting it now. Every wife should be as happy as I was in my subjection to my "Head." He said, "Remember this, and it is all right." The euphoria of acceptance--the baptism in the Holy Ghost!
