I was reading Victor Alexander's version of the Ten Commandments (
www.v-a.com/bible/) and was struck by his translation of verse 14: "Do not fornicate." Every one else has it, "You shall not commit adultery." I realized that it, the Ten Commandments, is not a moral code but directives to children. "You shall love the Lord . . . " your Father. Do not say anything bad about your dad, learn about him, honor the parents he gave you, don't lie, don't covet, don't fornicate. These are the words of a loving father to a son or daughter to bring them up to be like him.
