Our God: a Pictographic Perspective on Elohim

It struck me last night when I quoted Deuteronomy 6:4, "Hear, O Israel, YHWH, our God YHWH, is the one and only," that Moses was saying OUR God (Hebrew Elohim) because we are in it. Of it. We are IN YHWH, therefore He is our God. THAT is what we are to recognize.

In the pictographs of Ashur below, the earliest written form, flames radiate out from the Son in the sun disc. The flames are not peripheral to the word, they are integral, part of it. It is a package deal--one big unit: Sun, Son, and flames. Nothing fractures from the others. We are among the flames, IN God. So when Moses says, "Our God," and "Your God," it is because YHWH is the one we are in and of, part and parcel to. THIS we are to communicate to all mankind.

Hear, O Israel, YHWH, our God YHWH, is the one and only.
