The Sign of God

Continuing on from Genesis 4:7 to verses 11 and 12: "Henceforth you are cursed by the earth that opened its mouth and received the blood of your brother from your hands. As you work the earth, it will not flourish and give you its yield; you shall be a wanderer and a nomad on the earth." It is psychological and spiritual: "blood" is the real stuff, spiritual actuality; water is psychological, representative. Like the redemptive water in the pots at the wedding at Cana, when Jesus had the pots filled, the representative water became real, blood-like, the best of wine, because here was the real Redeemer.

Abel is our spiritual awareness. The flesh (Cain) rejects it, makes it "die." It isn't there anymore, so regardless of your work, it does not yield wealth and happiness, and life goes from bad to worse to worst. Remember Adam in the Paradise? They rejected God and found themselves in this hell.

Moses was brought up in the religions of his age: Egyptian, Hebrew, Median, and Mesopotamian. He discovered in religion Jethro, Divine increase and abundance. "Vas ist dis?" God. Or the sign of God at least. God is knockin' on our noggins with His sign. Go away from Him, reject Him, and your life goes to crud. Seek Him, believe Him, accept, worship and rejoice in Him, and you find favor. He is hardly a neutral force you can take advantage of. His favor draws you - you best figure out to honor He Who is favoring, drawing, and get yourself re-Abeled by the Blood of His Lamb.
