'Jethro,' his excellence or his jutting over, means God's
goodness. THAT is what Moses was contemplating when God spoke to him and said to let go of the intermediary things -- teachings, doctrines, study, prayers -- and experience the spirit directly by imagining what he purposed and desired as though it already existed: "That is my becoming."

how has this view of prayer changed your life ?

Dear Anonymous, If you do not mind, s/b: "How is this view of prayer changing your life." Because it is progressive. We are on a lot of different tracts to the main station, and our perspectives of life are in constant revision as we learn while we travel on down the line. Problems unknown become identified and resolved. I posted "Jethro Means God's Goodness" after reading Mencius' views of the qualities of ren (jen) and realized the connection, i.e., that ren is jethro. I had imagined jethro, "his excellence/his jutting over," to be material increase ("Gee, where'd this blessing come from?"). It is inner quality. God's nature already in us is to be cultivated into our outward expression so that "the people may be blessed." Cultivation takes the lifetime; it is constant, progressive resolution from darkness to light in our character. Which is what I was going to write about tonight, so thanks for the question.
